Complaint to Jasper Police- What's a meth user to do when his driver won't take him home and is making moves on his girlfriend?

(From the Jasper Police Department)

This was a very bizarre stop... And something you probably had to actually witness it first hand to truly understand the wild and crazy world of a meth user.

On Friday, February 14th, 2020 at 1613 hours, a Jasper PD officer stopped a black 2000 Ford Truck.

The officer made contact with the driver, Alfred Leer (Carthage) and Corey Phillips (Nevada). Both subjects appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine.

After questioning, Phillips advised they had used meth recently and have been at the casino for the last 2-3 days gambling with Leer’s disability check.

Phillips asked the officer if he would take him home to Nevada because Leer was just driving around and not taking him home. He also said Leer was taking advantage of his girlfriend.

When asked if there were drugs in the vehicle, he said he’d like to exercise his right to not say anything. Although Phillips was not in custody or physically detained, the officer let him exercise his right to remain silent although Miranda Rights did not apply to the case at this point.

The officer questioned Leer. He confirmed that he and Phillips had been at the casino the last days. He admitted to using methamphetamine earlier and that there was a broken meth pipe in the vehicle but said he didn’t want the officer touching it because it would cut him.

Leer said he was homeless and living out of his truck. The officer also learned that Leer is not a big fan of police.

The officer searched the truck and found a glass meth pipe on the front seat near the driver. Leer stated the pipe was his, and told the officer to just throw it away.

Leer was charged with possession of meth related drug paraphernalia.

And see kids and also those adults looking for a way to cope with everyday life... This why you don’t try, nor should you use methamphetamine. Meth only gives you the ability to more than likely end up like AL and Corey. Don’t use methamphetamine. Like NEVER EVER.

Note: Leer is presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law
