Sheriff David Groves is pleased to announce the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has recently secured over $52,000.00 in grant funding.
"The Governor's Grant Office notified me early last week that our application for funding under the Federal Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding had been approved," stated Sheriff Groves.
"Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office has taken steps to help ensure not only the health and safety of our staff in order to maintain necessary operational levels to meet public needs, but also to help promote the health and safety of our community. Some of those efforts include obtaining personal protective equipment, sanitizer and the chemical disinfecting of patrol units.
" The funding received under this grant will help offset those costs, as well as those anticipated should we see an influx of contagious disease spread in the fall. In addition, some funds will allow our agency to offset overtime costs and provide for technological upgrades, enhancing our ability conduct remote meetings and hearings.
" Residents will soon also have the option to remotely provide information to our office through our website, should they need to report a non-injury crash where no private property was damaged or provide information fo r other non-emergent crimes, should they choose to."
"By being selected to receive this competitive grant, we will be able to fund upgrades and pay for necessary equipment, which would have otherwise had to be taken out of our general operating budget. I appreciate United States Senator Jerry Moran, who not only provided a written letter of support, but whose office has been in regular contact with me and other sheriffs across the state in an effort to help us meet the COVID-19 related needs of our offices and communities," concluded Sheriff Groves
