KGCS to air programs on area's mining history

(From Southern News Service)

Local television viewers will have the chance to see two programs this summer that present unique looks at the mining history in the region. “End of an Era” (1985) and “The Mining Show” (1995) were produced by Missouri Southern students.

“Even though these shows are old, they present a glimpse at the impact the mining industry had on Joplin and the region,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS general manager. “They preserve interviews with people who are no longer here and share accounts of the mining days.”

The shows will air back-to-back on KGCS-TV on Tuesday, June 16 starting at 6:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, June 17 starting at 7:00 p.m. They will repeat throughout the upcoming weeks – and are also posted on the station’s YouTube site, “KGCS Missouri Southern.”

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
