Joplin man killed in head-on collision with semi on U. S. 166 in Cherokee County

A Joplin man was killed in a two-vehicle crash 1:57 a.m. Friday on U. S. 166 in Cherokee County, Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Gage Thomas Phelps, 41, Joplin, crossed the center line and struck a 1995 International semi truck driven by Jeremy L. Johnson, 40, Winfield, head on.

Johnson was taken to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, with a suspected serious injury, according to the report.
