(From the Jasper Police Department)On Monday, June 13th, 2022 at 1304 hours, a Jasper officer initiated a traffic stop at Mercer & 6th St., Jasper, Mo, on a white small model pickup truck.
Contact was made with the driver, Charles Goodwin (Joplin) and the front passenger who claimed he didn’t have any ID and gave the name of John Koplin (Carthage). Goodwin and Koplin both advised they had past criminal records for drugs.
Goodwin admitted he had a marijuana pipe inside vehicle, in the door handle.
The following was located after a search of the vehicle:
-Metal pipe with burnt marijuana residue inside. (located in the front driver’s side door handle).
-Blue and black backpack located in the back bed of the vehicle.
Before searching the bag, Koplin advised the bag belonged to a co-worker but he put the backpack in the truck.
During the search of the bag, he stated the wallet found inside was his and his id was in it. He also admitted the tools, binoculars, charge boxes and other miscellaneous items were his. He also admitted a plastic container with marijuana inside was his. The following was located in the bag:
-Hard case which contained a used syringe, glass pipe with meth residue, small plastic container with a white crystal substance which later field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Koplin was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Jasper County jail.
Koplin is presumed innocent until found guilty in the court of law.
