Search resumes for man who went over Grand Falls

At approximately 4:50 p.m. on June 14, 2022, Joplin 911 received reports of a male subject riding a raft near Joplin’s Grand Falls did not resurface after he went over the falls. 

Joplin Fire and Redings Mill Fire swift water rescue teams responded to the location and began searching for the missing person. 







Additional rescue personnel were sent downstream to begin a wider area search. Searchers continued their efforts until approximately 9 p.m. when the search was called off due to unsafe conditions in the dark. 

The search resumed at 8 a.m. on Wednesday under the direction of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Water Patrol Division.

Joplin Fire received assistance from Redings Mill Fire, Neosho Fire, Galena Fire, METS Ambulance, Joplin Police Department, and the Missouri Water Patrol.

Joplin Fire asks everyone to stay clear of the Grand Falls area as search efforts resume. The area will be closed until further notice.
