$50,000 bond set for Joplin man arrested with 167 grams of meth after silver scooter stop

On May 1st, 2023, an officer with the Joplin Police Department observed a silver scooter on Virginia Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on it near 20th and Main Street for traffic and registration violations. 

The scooter pulled into the parking lot of a convenience store and the driver attempted to enter the business. The officer was able to make contact with the driver, who was identified as Bobby E. Bowles, age 47, of Joplin. 










During the encounter, Bowles was found to have a revoked driver's license. Bowles was arrested and during a search of his coat, the officer located 9 separate baggies with each containing a white power and crystal-like substance. The substance in the baggies were tested and determined to be Methamphetamine and weighed a total of 167 grams. 

Bowles was transported to the Joplin City Jail where he remains in custody. 

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Driving While Revoked. His bond was set at $50,000 cash only.
