(From the Carl Junction Police Department)
There was an incident involving a firearm in a neighborhood close to the high school, so the school was notified about it and we requested that any kids outside be taken inside the school until the situation was resolved.
The incident was resolved safely.
The incident occurred at a residence on Prairie Hills Drive, and involved a 19-year-old male who unlawfully entered the home of his ex-girlfriend and confronted her and her friends. He then left and walked across the street to his residence where he reportedly obtained a handgun.
Returning to the area, the suspect saw the two friends leaving the Prairie Hills residence and chased after them on foot. The suspect then returned to his residence. No shots were fired and there were no indications that the gun was pointed at anyone. No injuries were reported.
About ten minutes after officers' arrival, the suspect was located by police at his residence and taken into custody without incident. A firearm was seized from the residence.
One of the responding officers was the high school resource officer. As he left the school, out of an abundance of caution due to the close proximity of the high school to the location of the disturbance, he requested that school personnel bring in any students who were outside until the suspect was located.
Officers maintained watch on the school until the suspect's location was confirmed.
