Joplin man dies from injuries sustained in motorcycle-van collision on Schifferdecker

On May 11th, 2023 the motorcycle operator involved in this crash died from his injuries. He has been identified as Larry N. Bellamy, age 53 of Joplin. Next of kin has been notified. 

The Major Crash Team is continuing their investigation and further details may be released as they become available. 








Original news release (Wednesday)

On May 10th, 2023, at 12:41 p.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a report of an injury crash at 4th and Schifferdecker Avenue involving a van and a motorcycle. 

Officers arrived on scene along with Joplin Fire Department and METS Ambulance personnel and located the motorcycle operator and determined he had critical injuries. He was provided treatment and transported to Freeman Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. 

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is currently investigating the incident. 








Preliminary investigation results indicate a full-size Ford van was stopped at the stop sign facing westbound at 4th and Schifferdecker and began making a left turn onto Schifferdecker Avenue. 

The van pulled into the path of a Harley Davidson motorcycle that was northbound on Schifferdecker Avenue. The driver of the van was not injured and there were no other passengers in that vehicle. The motorcycle operator was the only occupant on the motorcycle.
