A Carthage man was injured in a three-vehicle accident 11:55 a.m. today on MO 249 three miles east of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Axel F. Hartman, 52, Carthage, struck the rear of a 2017 Kenworth T880 driven by William S. Massey, 61, Oswego, Kansas.
The Hartman vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway across the northbound lanes of MO 249, across a ramp through a ditch onto Newman Road where it struck a 2014 Jeep Wrangler driven by Abby L. Phelps, 43, Joplin, then overturned.
Hartman was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
