Nine people injured in crash on I-44 in Sarcoxie; Springfield man cited for felony DWI

 A Springfield man was cited for felony driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle collision injured nine people 10:15 p.m. Sunday on I-44 in Sarcoxie.

According to the Highway Patrol report, 2012 Kia Soul driven by James D. Hake, 62, Springfield, struck the rear of a 2020 Dodge Journey driven by Fredy Guzman, 30, Bentonville, Arkansas.

The Guzman vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a mobile electronic warning device, traveled down an embankment and overturned.







The Hake vehicle overturned, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a concrete drain, overturned again and stopped on the median cable barrier.

Hake, who was also cited for not having insurance and for not wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Mercy Springfield with serious injuries.

Guzman and seven passengers in his vehicle, a 2-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl, Tania G. Guzman Hildalgo, 27, Aldo Calderon-Aguilar, 33, Manuel Guzman, 46, and Elsa G. Hildalgo De Guzman, 51, all of Bentonville, were treated for minor injuries at Mercy Springfield.
