Sarcoxie woman arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, Kansas man cited on weapons charge

During the evening hours of 10/25/2024, Lamar PD Officers conducted a traffic stop near 9th & Gulf. The driver was identified as Kelsey L. Mendoza, 30, of Sarcoxie, MO, and one passenger, Ralph A Sabala, 65, of Overland Park, KS. Further investigation found that the driver had arrest warrants from Jasper County, MO, and the passenger had a warrant for his arrest as well.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded pistol as well as suspected illegal narcotics and paraphernalia items.








Kelsey Mendoza was cited for driving under the influence of drugs. Charges were forwarded to the Barton County Prosecutor for Ralph Sabala for a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Additional charges pending identification from a crime lab of the suspected illegal narcotics.

Ofc. Brandon Carbone made the initial vehicle stop; he was assisted by Ofc. Duncan, Cpl. Hockett and Sgt. Cornell.

As is the case in all arrests, charges are based on probable cause and all persons are considered innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
