(From the Joplin Fire Department)The Joplin Fire Department has been made aware that there is a person calling businesses during late night or early morning claiming to be with the Joplin Fire Marshal’s office. The person advises the business that their fire alarm has activated or that the Fire Marshal is coming to the business to conduct an inspection.
The Joplin Fire Department will never call anyone to advise them that their alarm is sounding; if it sounds, you can expect our fire crews to arrive at the scene immediately—that’s our policy.
Additionally, the Fire Marshal’s office will only do inspections during business hours and only after scheduling an inspection with the business owner.
The Joplin Fire Department urges all businesses to be aware of these incidents. If you receive a call similar to this, please report it immediately by calling 417-623-3131.
Impersonation is a crime and will be prosecuted accordingly.
