A Joplin woman was killed in a car-train collision 5:51 p.m. Tuesday on David Lane five miles south of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2019 Dodge Charger driven by a 58-year-old Joplin man failed to yield to a KCPS freight train. The signal device used at the crossing is a crossbuck and yield sign.
A passenger in the car, Patty Mae Sammons, 64, Joplin, was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Newton County Coroner Priscilla Atwood.
The driver was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Joplin.
The fatality was the 89th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
