(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)On 09/09/2025 at or about 2:00pm, The Newton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a burglary that occurred on Norway Rd near Neosho.
The homeowner reported he had been alerted that someone was on his property by security video. The video showed that two males were on the property, one appeared to be carrying a handgun, and the other appeared to be carrying a rifle.
The homeowner responded to his residence and found that it had been burglarized with several items missing from the home.
While a detective was on scene gathering evidence at the residence, a neighbor, who was aware of what had occurred, located the two males laying down in a wooded area nearby. The neighbor held the males at gun point until law enforcement could arrive. Law Enforcement did locate items that had been reported stolen from the residence in the male’s possession.
One of the males was in possession of a firearm as well. A search warrant was secured for a nearby residence, in which the males were known to be currently staying at. Other items that were missing from the victim’s residence were located during the search warrant service.
Justin W. Newman, 48, of Neosho (top photo), and Jason M. Tackett, 45, of Neosho, were arrested and a request for formal charges was submitted through the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office. Both have been formally charged with 2nd Degree Burglary, Stealing and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Both are being held in the Newton County jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
