Joplin Health Department to expand testing for sexually-transmitted diseases

(From the Joplin Health Department)

In recognition of National STD Awareness Month, expanded Chlamydia/Gonorrhea testing is allowed during the month of April. Both chlamydia and gonorrhea are cured with the right medication.

Chlamydia is a common STD that can infect both men and women. It can cause serious, permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. Most people with chlamydia have no symptoms. Gonorrhea is also a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years.

If you reside within the city limits of Joplin, are age twelve or older, and would like to be screened and/or tested for chlamydia or gonorrhea, please call the Joplin Health Department to schedule an appointment. STD testing is completed on Wednesdays by appointment only. There is no fee for testing and treatment.

Please call the Joplin City Health Department at 417-623-6122 to schedule your confidential appointment.
