(From the Joplin Police Department)

On 4/14/2015 at 1:14 AM, the Joplin Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle accident in the area of 4th and Florida.

Investigators determined that the crash was a result of deliberate actions by Ira Jones. During an ongoing dispute between Jones and Michael D.W. James, Jones located James, a passenger in a gold Impala, of which the owner/driver was David Anderson, at Bulls Eye gas station, 901 N Florida Ave.

Anderson attempted to flee from Jones at a high rate of speed southbound on Florida from Newman. Jones, driving a 1995 black Buick Riviera, pursued the gold Impala, at times driving south in the northbound lane. Prior to Fourth Street,

Jones purposefully pushed the fleeing Impala with his Riviera causing the Riviera to crash, ultimately coming to rest upside down. David Anderson was taken to Freeman Hospital by police. James sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance.

Jones fled the scene and was later arrested at 3512 E. Newman Road.

During the investigation, it was also determined that Jones had previously assaulted his girlfriend, Breanna N. Williams. Williams stated that Jones had struck her, choked her and deprived her of a cell-phone during a domestic incident. She did not require medical treatment.
