A Webb City man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 7:04 p.m. Thursday on Morgan Heights Road, 200 feet west of Carthage.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Buick Regal, driven by Tyler G. Everitt, 22, Webb City, going at a high rate of speed, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.
Everitt was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner George Woodward.
A passenger, Richard A. Watson, 27, Carthage, was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the 42nd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
