Trial averted, Pierce City woman pleads guilty to DWI charge

On the day her trial was scheduled in Jasper County Circuit Court, a Pierce City woman withdrew her not guilty plea and pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated.

Judge David Dally sentenced Jessica Hope Todd, 37, to two years in prison, then suspended the sentence and placed her on probation for five years. The probation will be under state supervision until Todd completes 480 hours of community service. After that, it will be supervised by the court.

Todd was charged as a persistent offender when she was arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff's Department on April 13, 2014.

The arrest was not the first time Todd had been arrested in Jasper County. On two previous occasions, her charges were reduced after plea agreements worked out with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

Online court documents show Todd pleaded guilty December 16, 2011, to an amended charge of excessive blood alcohol content and in 2012 she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of operating a motor vehicle with brakes not in good working order.

Both of those pleas were entered in Judge Joseph Schoeberl's court.
