An unveiling similar to a time capsule opening will take place Thursday, October 13, 11 a.m. in the Longwell Museum on the Crowder College campus in Neosho.
The Museum has a permanent Camp Crowder exhibit on display containing items that reflect the college’s history of a World War II Signal Corps Training Base.
The box, which is said to contain two baseball uniforms worn by soldiers as well as many professional photographs of some famous baseball players of the era, was donated by Lynn McHale, whose father, William E. Martin, was stationed at Camp Crowder and served as Athletic Director.
McHale contacted the Newton County Tourism Council to find a home for the memorabilia. McHale will not be able to attend the event, but was excited to share the items as well as her family history with the college. Her parent met while her father was at Camp Crowder. Her mother was the former Barbara Wilson of Neosho.
Steve Roark, President-Newton County Tourism Council Board, contacted the college to make the presentation.
College officials as well as student-athletes and coaches will be on hand to reveal the contents of the box.
