A Galena, Missouri man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 6:50 p.m. Thursday on Coyote Drive, 1.5 miles south of Joplin.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Ferdie D. Canady, 50, Galena, attempted to pass another vehicle, lost control as it was driving back into the northbound lane traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
Canady, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected into a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Coroner Jerry Deems.
The fatality was the sixth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
