The Music Department at Missouri Southern State University will present a “Spring Dawning” concert on Thursday, March 16, in Taylor Performing Arts Center.
The Carthage High School Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. The Missouri Southern Concert Band will follow at 7:30 p.m., featuring student conductors and a performance of “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas” by Eric Whitacre.
The MSSU Wind Ensemble will then take the stage to perform Ron Nelson’s “Rocky Point Holiday” and “Festive Overture,” by Dimitri Shostakovich.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Other events planned on campus include the continuation of the International Film Festival, a professional clothing giveaway for students and a performance by magician Josh McVicar.
Tuesday, March 14
“Illicit Interlude (Sommarlek)”: 7 p.m., Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall. The 1951 film by Ingmar Bergman finds a ballerina confronting a deep loss to find the courage to face the future. Admission is free and open to the public.
Wednesday, March 15
Dress to Impress Professional Clothing Giveaway: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Connor Ballroom in Billingsly Student Center. Students can build a professional wardrobe by selecting free clothing donated by the community. Sponsored by Career Services.
Magician Josh McVicar: 7 p.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. McVicar’s show combines magic, comedy and hypnosis. Free and open to the campus community.
Thursday, March 16
Predicting Cash Needs: 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Plaster Hall. Participants will learn to estimate future sources and uses of cash. Cost is $69 per person. To register, contact the Small Business Technology & Development Center at 417-625-3128.

Saturday, March 18
MSSU Brass Day: 8 a.m., Fine Arts Building. The event will include guest artists Adam Rapa, Scott Mendoker and Barbara York. Registration is $15. Details: 417-625-9634.
