Joplin Police DWI checkpoint at 7th and Illinois nets 22 arrests, 10 DWIs

On Friday March 17th, 2017 the Joplin Police Department along with members of the Southwest Missouri DWI Task Force and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint at 7th and Illinois.

The goals of the checkpoint were to:

1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of Driving while intoxicated or impaired.
3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.

The checkpoint was in service from 9:40 pm Friday until 2:20 am Saturday morning.

1065 drivers were contacted
44 field sobriety test were conducted on subjects
10-DWI’s
19 -total tickets
25 -warnings
5 – Possession of Marijuana
2 – Possession of Paraphernalia
5 – Fugitives Apprehended
1 – Felony Fugitive Apprehended
1 – Stolen car recovered
22-total arrests

This checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division.
