Man says pigs were running loose and damaged his property
On June 22nd 2017 a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 963 Northeast 20th Lane in Barton County in reference to a property damage complaint. The victim in this complaint advised his property had been damaged and torn up due to pigs that were running loose in the area. The owner of the pigs just resides a short distance away from the complaining party. The deputy has spoke with the parties involved and the two are working to try to figure out a resolution. A informational report was taken on this incidents at this time.

She says Carthage man hit her with beer can; he says he dumped his beer on her
On June 24 2017, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of an assault which had just occurred on interstate I-49. When the deputies arrived on scene the deputies was told that a male suspect had struck the female subject with a can of beer in the face. Whenever the deputies located the male subject walking on I-49 and conducted an interview with him on what occurred he advised he did not strike the woman however he did dump his beer out on her. There were four minor children in the vehicle at the time of the domestic situation. The deputy spoke with the children to find out what had occurred in the vehicle. At the conclusion of the investigation the male subject was arrested for domestic assault. The male subject was identified as Curtis Lee Owen, age 36, of Carthage Missouri. The report will be sent to the Barton County prosecuting attorney for consideration of filing criminal charges.

On June 30, 2017, a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant to an inmate who was already incarcerated in the Barton County Jail on city municipal charges. The subject arrested was Curtis R. Langford, age 22, of Lamar. Langford’s warrant was for the charge of stealing a firearm. The case was investigated by the city of Lamar Police Department. The warrant had a bond amount of $5,000 cash or surety.
Tenant charged with stealing water
On June 30, 2017, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 23 Northeast 1st Lane Lot number 10 in reference to a stealing case. The complainant advised that the tenant owed money for utilities and the owner of the property had shut off the water to the tenant. The owner of the property advised that the tenant had reconnected the water without his consent or anybody else’s. The individual had used a water hose and connected to a neighboring trailer to obtain water to her trailer. The complainant wanted the tenant arrested for the theft of water. During the investigation one person was taken into custody Samantha L. Marcus, age 26, of Lamar was taken into custody for stealing.
Marcus was placed on a 24-hour hold for investigation awaiting formal charges by the Barton County Prosecuting Attorney.

On June 29th, 2017, Chanstin B. Besendorfer, 24, Lamar, turned herself in to the Barton County Jail. Besendorfer had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for the charge of bringing a controlled substance (contraband) into a jail facility. Besendorfer was processed into the Barton County Jail and she later posted Bond and was released. She was given the next available court date.
Harassment complaint investigated
On June 29, 2017, a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 573 East Highway U in reference to a harassment or threats case.
The complaining party, a Rebecca Kirkpatrick, advised that there was a child custody issue or modification to the original court order going on between her and their child’s father, a Steven Danner. The reporting party advised that she had called to speak with their child’s father to find out what arrangements were going to be made with the child. The reporting party advised that Danner’s wife answered the telephone, a Kristy Danner. The complaining party advised that Kristy got upset because Rebecca would not discuss any of the arrangements with Kristy and only wanted to speak to Steven. The complaining party advised that she had hung up from the Kristy but had told her to have the child’s father call her back. A short time later Kristy called back and made several threatening statements to Rebecca. It alarmed her and she wanted to report it and document what was said.
Liberal woman picked up on outstanding warrant
On June 28, 2017, deputies with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a follow-up investigation at a residence in Liberal, Missouri. During that investigation they made contact with a Virginia L. Goodman, age 38 of Liberal. During a routine check for warrants they found she had an active warrant for her arrest for failure to appear. The original charge was a traffic ticket for speeding. Goodman was transported to the Barton County Jail and processed in. She later posted bond and was released from the jail.

On June 28, 2017, an inmate was transported from The Jasper County Jail to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office where he was served a warrant for his arrest. Austin T. Russow, 25, Carthage, was served his warrant for the charge of probation violation. Russow’s original charge and reason for him being on probation is burglary. He was processed into the Barton County jail and given a court date.

On June 27 at approximately 10 p.m., the Barton County dispatcher received a call about a suspicious truck that was located in the 1300 block of Clinton street. The reporting party advised they felt like the vehicle had been stolen due to the damage the vehicle had. When the deputies arrived on scene they realized that they had located the vehicle which had been reported stolen earlier in the day in Golden City. The vehicle was towed back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office where we processed it for anything which can be used as evidence against the suspect or suspects involved in stealing the vehicle. This investigation is ongoing in this case.

On June 27 2017, a deputy responded to 608 Depot in Golden City in reference to property damage. The reporting party advised that there was damage to her vehicle. It was reported that somebody had tried to remove some of the molding on the vehicle. She said she first saw the damage on the 25th of June. At this time the investigation is ongoing to the property damage of the vehicle.

On June 27 2017, a deputy of the Barton County Sheriff’s Office served a warrant to Evan J. Abernathy, age 21, of Lamar on a charge of probation violation. Abernathy turned himself into the jail whenever he realized that he had an active warrant. Abernathy was processed into the jail.

Report of stolen truck investigated in Golden City
On June 27th 2017 a Deputy responded to Brian’s Auto in Golden City in reference to a vehicle which had been stolen off the parking lot. The owner of the business stated that he had worked late the night before and that whenever he went home that evening the vehicle was still at the property.
The owner of the business stated that he thought the owner of the truck had came back and picked up the truck.
The owner of the truck told the owner of the business that he had not and the business had the only key to that truck. The truck was entered into the nationwide NCIC computer as a stolen vehicle. The truck was described as a 1994 Ford Ranger truck. The investigation continues on the stolen truck.

On June 26, 2017, a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint from an individual of harassment. The parties have a pending order of protection order against her husband. The complainant advised that the husband had been texting and calling and leaving her messages on her phone. At this point in time the deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a harassment report on the incident.

He gave her a TV and DVD player and now he's making inappropriate comments
On June 25th 2017 a deputy with the Barton County Sheriff’s Office spoke with an individual in reference to some concerns. She advised that a male subject has been coming around her and her home and making her feel very uncomfortable.
The incident occurred at the apartments in Golden City. The female told the deputy that the male subject started coming around and he was being very nice and generous helping her out with a few things that she needed. She told the deputy that the male subject gave her a television and a DVD player for her home in Golden City. The female advised as time has gone on he has made some very inappropriate comments which have made her feel uncomfortable. The individuals just wanted somebody else to know and she filled out a written statement on the allegations, but at this time they were wanting the opportunity to tell the subject herself that she did not want to have any more contact with him and she wanted to give him the opportunity to honor her request. A informational report has been taken on this specific situation. No other complaints have been heard at this time.
Facebook post leads man to threaten to kill someone
On June 24, 2017, the Barton County deputies were dispatched to 304 North Hill Street in Liberal Missouri in reference to an assault case. The victim in the case claimed that a subject had came by his residence and threatened to kill him. The victim advised he believed the incident stemmed from a Facebook post where the suspect was accused of stealing some of his personal items. The deputies were able to locate two other subjects who were involved in the disturbance. All parties agreed that they were angry and upset at the time and if they actually no intention of hurting anybody. All the parties were told to stay away from each other and each other’s belongings.
Golden City building burglarized
On June 23 2017, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called and told that the building in the Golden City Park had been broken into. The Sheriff’s Office was told that there was an item stolen from that building. A deputy responded to the scene to investigate the incident. Photographs and items of evidentiary value was taken and a investigative report was taken. The investigation continues into the burglary.

The reporting party advised he had went fishing and left his vehicle in a parking lot along the side of the road unlocked. The victim advised that the pond was a distance away from the vehicle and he was unable to see the vehicle from the pond. The victim told us that while he was fishing he heard a vehicle approach where his vehicle was parked and that it sounded as if it stopped in the area of his vehicle. The reporting party advised that it wasn’t there very long and he had heard it drive off. The reporting party advised he didn’t think anybody would get in his vehicle and steal his firearm. A report was taken on the stolen firearm and it has been entered into the Nationwide system NCIC.
