Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responds to report of gunshots

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

Thursday evening, a deputy was in Riverton conducting a follow-up investigation when he heard what sounded like 2 gunshots being discharged. He, and other deputies, searched the area but was unable to locate where the shots were discharged from.

The deputies made contact with numerous residents to insure everyone was safe, which they were.

At no time was there a manhunt or any suspect believed to be fleeing on foot. As Riverton is unincorporated, the discharge of a firearm is not in itself unlawful.

Of course, residents are always encouraged to be alert and contact our office at 620-848-3000 (or 911 in an emergency) should they hear or see anything suspicious.
