An Asbury man was killed and an Asbury woman seriously injured in a car-train collision 11:45 a.m. today on County Road 300, one mile south of Asbury.
According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1995 Toyota Camry driven by Jose Morales-Oereida, 47, Asbury, failed to yield to a Kansas City Southern train driven by Clifton A. Shupert, 28, Heavener, Oklahoma and was struck in the passenger side.
Morales-Oereida was pronounced dead at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, at 1:05 p.m.
A passenger, in his vehicle, Francisca A. Nerez, 47, Asbury, was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West.
The fatality was the 18th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
