Fort Scott authorities find body of 74-year-old Alzheimer's victim in Marmaton River

On October 16, 2018, at 1:05 p.m., officers with the Fort Scott Police Department were dispatched to 402 S. Clark in reference to a missing persons request.

Upon arrival, it was learned Edith Hawkins, 74, had left her residence earlier in the day at approximately 10 a.m. and had not been seen since. Family members reported to officers that Edith suffered from Alzheimer's.



Members of the Fort Scott police and fire departments, Bourbon County Sheriff's Department, Mercy EMS and District 5 Rural Fire began searching for Edith in and around the city of Fort Scott.

At approximately 3:01 p.m., a deceased body believed to be Edith Hawkins was found in the water of the Marmaton River between Second Street Bridge and the North National Bridge.

The body is being sent to Frontier Forensics in Kansas City assist in the investigation.
