Juvenile taken into police custody after bringing stolen weapon to Joplin High School

Joplin Police have a juvenile student in custody today following a report of a stolen handgun at Joplin High School.

School authorities took quick action after receiving a tip from a student and contacted the Joplin Police Department.

Superintendent Melinda Moss sent the following recorded phone message to parents:

Today, a student notified a Joplin High School administrator of a comment overheard about a student having a weapon on property. We took the information very seriously. immediately apprehended the student and called juvenile and police authorities.





Jasper County Juvenile Office and Joplin Police Department have and will continue to investigate the situation.

A stolen weapon was confirmed and confiscated from the juvenile student. It was no direct throat to the school or intent to harm. The student is currently in police custody. 

Police have assured us that it is safe to continue with our regular school routine.We commend our students and staff for taking quick action and being an advocate for safety. Thank you for your continued support of Joplin Schools.
