Joplin man charged with auto theft after driving car off McClelland Boulevard, slamming into tree

A Joplin man was charged with tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree following a one-vehicle crash 9:27 a.m. today on McClelland Boulevard, one mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 2007 Ford Escape driven by Kevin R. Estes, 41, Joplin, traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and overturned striking a tree.

Estes, who was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, was also cited for careless and imprudent driving, no seat belt, and Carthage Police Department warrants for failure to appear on charges of not wearing a seat belt and improper registration.
