The Lion Co-op, Missouri Southern State University’s food and personal hygiene pantry, will host “Cooking in a Dorm Room” on Monday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. inside the FEMA shelter.
Lindsey Stevenson, MU Extension County Engagement Specialist in Nutrition and Health Education, will present the free cooking demonstration and tasting for students. Two recipes will be demonstrated and the ingredients of those will be provided to students.
Local community groups have donated the ingredients and Southwest Missouri Bank has donated small kitchen appliances.
“Our goal is to not only provide students with food, but provide them with nutrition education and cooking skills that will last them beyond college,” said Dr. Andrea Cullers, associate professor in the Kinesiology Department and registered dietician. “Eating healthy does not need to be expensive, but you have to be able to cook and be creative with ingredients. We hope this will provide students with the skills to eat healthier.”
Students can sign-up for the cooking class at the Lion Co-op or by contacting Dr. Andrea Cullers via email (cullers-a@mssu.edu) or by phone -
