Teen Hop to be inducted into Regional Media Hall of Fame

(From Southern News Service)

A fixture on local television airwaves from 1958 to 1975 and the Four States version of “American Bandstand,” “Teen Hop” will be inducted into this year’s Regional Media Hall of Fame.

A reception and awards ceremony is set for 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 in the North End Zone Facility.

The show aired on KODE-TV and featured students from area high schools in a dance competition. During the course of its run, more than 15,000 students participated, representing over 60 high schools across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

“The show had a large following and provided a lot of memories for a generation of regional students,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS-TV General Manager. “We’re glad to be able to showcase this program and to recognize it for its contribution to the region.”

Some of the show’s participants will be in attendance at the ceremony. A video featuring old footage and participant interviews will also be shown.

The Regional Media Hall of Fame recognizes the contributions made by media that have made a significant impact on the profession and the community. Awards have been presented since 2006.
