Barton County child in critical condition at Children's Mercy Hospital after being found unresponsive in swimming pool

On August 12, 2019 at approximately 7:10 p.m. the Barton County 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a child that was found unresponsive in an above ground swimming pool.

Family members removed the child from the swimming pool and called 911. First responders and deputies were dispatched to the residence, which is located south of the intersection of 43 Highway and 126 highways in Barton County. 

Prior to any first responders arriving, family members performed CPR on the child. When emergency responders arrived on scene, lifesaving measures were provided by paramedics from the Barton County Ambulance. 

The child was transported to Via Christi hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas by the Barton County Ambulance and a short time later was transported to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City and is in critical condition.

At this time the family asks that you keep them in their prayers during this horrible tragedy. 







The Barton County Sheriff contacted the Missouri State Highway Patrol to investigate the incident. 

The incident has been ruled as a tragic accident and no further criminal investigation is being sought.
