ArtCon set for Saturday in Neosho

(From the Neosho Arts Council)

Neosho Arts Council is bringing ArtCon back with more pop culture excitement for all ages this Saturday, February 8. Last year’s event was so successful the group out grew their original location and will hold this year’s convention at Carver Elementary School in Neosho.

“With the larger space we are able to bring more professional comic artists, authors, and special guest Corin Nemec,” said Sarah Serio, president of the council. Nemec has appeared in tv shows like “Stargate SG1,” “Supernatural,” and more.

This year’s event is the group’s main fundraisers for their ongoing efforts to promote and support the arts in Neosho.

Along with Nemec featured guests include comic book artists Jeremy Haun, Aaron Kuder, Phillip Hester, and Ande Parks plus authors Kevin Dilmore and Dayton Ward alongside JP Pool, host of YouTube’s EgoTastic FunTime.

While Haun is a local comic artist his work has an international audience. Not only has he drawn for books such as “Batwoman” and “Batman” he’s now known for books he’s creating such as “The Red Mother” and “The Realm.”

“All of our artists have contributed to some of the most well-known comic books on shelves today such as “Wonder Woman,” “Green Arrow,” and “Fantastic Four” just to name a few. Phillip Hester is even credited for creating characters in the Green Arrow universe,” Serio added.

Some of the featured events during the day will be a Q&A Panel with Corin Nemec and “YouTube VS Podcast” a panel looking into the benefits of both platforms, equipment needs, and answering questions. Panel Passes are needed for both events.

“Panel Passes are allowing us to keep our general admission prices low for families while giving those wanting to expand their ArtCon experience the option to,” explained Serio. “It will also guarantee you seating so you don’t stand in line only to not get a spot.” Seating is limited in both panels so pre-purchasing passes is suggested.

Attendees can get their photo taken with Corin Nemec and get an 8x10 photo autographed during the event. Special tickets are needed for the photo op and autograph sessions for $20 and $10 respectively but those tickets are included in the Gold Panel Pass which will get you into the limited seating Q&A with Nemec.

A variety of cosplay guests will be on hand including Stormtroopers who will be running a special “Blast a Stormtrooper” booth.

Other events include a cosplay contest for kids, teens, and adults, all day table top gaming, and a performance by KiRa KiRa, an anime cosplay group from Springfield, Mo, all of which are included in the general admission ticket.

“This will be a fun filled day for all ages and all funds raised go toward free community concerts in the park, sending students on art field trips, and our ongoing efforts to restore several historic mural to name just a few of NAC’s projects,” Serio said. “This event is put on 100% by volunteers so all money goes back into the community via the fine arts.”

General admission for ArtCon is just $5 (ages 5 and under free), Panel passes, Corin Nemec Autograph and Photo Op tickets are all on sale now a neoshoarts.net along with cosplay ruls, a full schedule of events and activities. ArtCon runs 11:00am to 6:00pm, February 8 at Carver Elementary School in Neosho.
