Joplin man, eight-year-old killed in crash on NN

 Two Joplin residents were killed in a one-vehicle accident 10:20 p.m. Saturday on Route NN, three miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2015 Dodge Caravan driven by James I. Uitts, 50, Joplin, ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, then a telephone phone, overturned and hit some trees.

Newton County Deputy Coroner Brian Artherton pronounced Uitts and a passenger, an eight-year-old boy, dead at the scene at 10:26 and 10:42 p.m., respectively.

The fatalities were the 43rd and 44th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
