Missouri Southern students receive scholarships from broadcasters association

(From Southern News Service)

A current Missouri Southern State University student and a Joplin High School graduate who will attend MSSU in the fall are among students from around the state receiving scholarships from the Missouri Broadcasters Association.

Each will receive a $2,000 scholarship, and were nominated for the award by Missouri Southern’s KGCS-TV and KXMS Radio.

Chiara Sbravatti, a senior mass communications student from Brazil, currently serves as the student manager for KXMS and has worked on a number of projects for KGCS. She hosts a student-produced cooking show, and directs, runs cameras and shoots video for a number of programs and sporting events.

“Chiara does all of these amazing things for our television and radio stations all while being away from her home and family in Brazil,” said Bobbie Pottorff, general manager of KGCS. “She is so impressive with all she does and always volunteers to do more.”

Kadin SStorm recently graduated from Joplin High School and will be a freshman at Missouri Southern in the fall. He impressed his teachers and peers with the work he did for Joplin Eagles Television (JETHD), including covering press conferences with professional media and making films.

“We can’t wait to see how high this Eagle will fly,” said Brad Douglas, a media teacher at JHS and general manager of JETHD.

KGCS-TV operates as a service of the Department of Communication. Students gain valuable hands-on experience in broadcasting by working at the station. Programming may be seen over the air on digital channel 21 and on regional cable television systems.
