Lamar man faces assault, weapons charges following pistol whipping

On 05/13/21 officers responded to an address on W 1st St for a disturbance with a weapon. 

After an on-scene investigation, it was found the offender had pointed a pistol at the victim and struck the victim with the pistol multiple times.








 
The victim was able to overcome his attacker and detained him until the police arrived. The victim did receive minor injuries. 

Further investigation revealed the pistol to be reported stolen from Joplin Mo. 

Jory Pennel, 47 of Lamar was taken into custody. Formal charges were filed through the Barton County Prosecutor’s office for 1st Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Prohibited person in possession of a firearm and Possession of stolen property. 

Pennell is currently in custody at the Barton County jail with no bond.
