(From the City of Joplin)Starting Monday, February 7, 10th Street between Main Street and Joplin Avenue will be closed for a stormwater improvement project. Closure is scheduled for seven calendar days and will begin at 7 a.m. on February 7.
This closure will allow for the replacement of a failed box culvert with a 72-inch culvert on the west side of Main Street. The top of existing culvert also served as the sidewalk.
The improvement will enhance the stormwater system by providing a more efficient conveyance system in the area. Sidewalk improvements along the west side of Main Street and south side of 10th Street will also be completed with new inlets and an ADA ramp at 10th Street installed.
Southwest Missouri Traffic is the prime contractor on the job with D&E Plumbing and Heating as the sub-contractor.
This area will open on Monday, February 14, weather permitting. Traffic will be detoured during this time. Drivers may want to choose alternative routes due to possible delays.
The project is funded through the Parks and Stormwater Sales Tax, which voters renewed in 2021.
For questions, please contact Public Works at 417-624-0820, ext. 1531.
