Joplin man killed, Seneca woman, teen injured in Coyote Drive collision

A Joplin man was killed and two Seneca residents injured in a two-vehicle collision 4 p.m. Sunday on Coyote Drive, north of I-44 and just north of the Joplin city limits.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Kia Soul driven by Jonathan D. Beavers, 25, Joplin, crossed the center line and struck a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Melody S. Kelly, 47, Seneca, in the front.








Newton County Coroner Bill Owen pronounced Beavers dead at the scene.

Kelly was treated for serious injuries and a passenger in her vehicle, a 14-year-old girl, for moderate injuries at Mercy Joplin.

The fatality was the 12th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
