According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Roger C. Nichols, 60, Webb City, was eastbound on 20th when it traveled off the right side of the road and struck a pole, continued off the roadway, crossed two private driveways before coming to a final rest facing east.
Dr. Kennedy pronounced Nichols dead at 2:18 p.m. at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the 13th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
