Crowder College announced the hiring of Dr. Paul Schlag, Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Schlag will begin his new role January 2, 2024.
With a distinguished career in higher education administration, Dr. Schlag brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role as the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, further strengthening the academic landscape at Crowder College.
Dr. Schlag holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation management and youth leadership from Brigham Young University; master’s of public administration from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs; master’s of education with distinction in instructional technology from the University of Georgia; and a doctorate in recreation and leisure studies from the University of Georgia.

Schlag’s journey in academia includes significant roles serving as the Inaugural Executive Director of the Honors College & International Affairs at Central State University in Ohio; chief of staff, director and associate director of the Centennial Honors College, assistant department chair, and full professor at Western Illinois University.
Dr. Schlag's dedication to teaching and students is underscored by his development of over 30 online and in-person courses incorporating community partnerships and project-based learning throughout his 20-year academic career.
A recipient of the highest awards for teaching at the department, college, and university levels, Dr. Schlag's commitment to pedagogical excellence culminated in the prestigious Provost’s Award in Teaching. His scholarly contributions extend beyond the classroom, with a rich array of publications, including book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, popular articles, and invited peer reviews.
Fluent in both Russian and English, Dr. Schlag's global perspective is exemplified by his experiences with international education and his presentations at conferences around the world. His engagement in community activities includes coach, church services, scout leader, and several boards.

Paul and his wife, Abigail Farnsworth Schlag, have four outstanding children. They will be moving to the area with two of their high school-age children in the coming months.
