The General Session for the Jasper County Commission was called to order at 9:00 a.m. on November 14, 2023, in room 101 of the Jasper County Courthouse by Presiding Commissioner John Bartosh.
The meeting was opened with a prayer by Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser followed by the pledge of allegiance.
Presiding Commissioner John Bartosh, Commissioner Darieus K. Adams, and Commissioner Tom Flanigan were present.
Commissioner Adams made a motion to approve the minutes from the November 7, 2023, General Session. Commissioner Flanigan seconded the motion. By unanimous vote, the minutes were approved.
Austin Butera with the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council presented grant information to the county commission. He stated that there will be grants available and the county needs to fill out paperwork stating projects that are needed for the county.
Jasper County Auditor Sarah Hoover presented the proposed 2024 budget. The highlights are a 6% COLA pay increase, $0 increase in health insurance (the county will absorb the increase), $0 deductible for prescriptions. It was also noted that the county has seen a 20% increase in insurance costs, sales tax revenue is down, and marijuana sales tax is unknown at the current moment.
Commissioner Adams made a motion to table the discussion on the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office wellness plan. Commissioner Flanigan seconded the motion. By unanimous vote, the motion passes
