Name released of pedestrian struck, killed by SUV in Joplin Sam's Club parking lot

On Saturday November 11, 2023, at 1130am the Joplin Police Department responded to Sam’s Club Parking Lot, 3536 South Hammonds Boulevard for a vehicle vs. pedestrian injury crash. 

The pedestrian, 69-year-old Connie Bennett, Columbus, Kansas, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.






 

Officers with the Joplin Police Department Crash Team responded to investigate. Initial investigation and video surveillance indicated that Bennett was walking across the parking lot towards the store. 

An SUV was turning slowly from the main drive directly in front of the store into a parking isle, and impact was made with the front of the SUV to Bennett. The SUV and its driver stopped and remained on scene and cooperated with officers. 

Bennett later died at a local hospital from the injuries sustained in the crash. 

The incident is under investigation.
