(From Jasper Fire and Rescue)About 8:45am this morning Jasper Fire was dispatched with Mercy EMS to a 2 vehicle head on crash at Base Line Blvd. and CR 138.
Dispatch stated that there were injuries and a person trapped.
Upon arrival, a car was found down an embankment to the south with the driver out. The other had rolled several times down the north embankment and was on its side in the cemetery. There were 2 patients trapped and 3 more patients were found outside the vehicle.
Patient care was started prior to arrival of EMS and MedFlight 3 was called to the scene. The patients were extricated in about 20 minutes. There were 3 serious patients transported to Joplin by ambulances and 1 flown to Springfield by MedFlight. The more minor patient was taken by to the hospital by private vehicle.
Thank you to the off duty Lamar/ Joplin firefighter that stopped to help us as well as Mercy and Barton County Ambulances and MedFlight 3 for working well with us. Thank you also to Jasper County 911 and Barton County 911 for taking care of our communications needs and to JCSO and MSHP for helping close the road for our landing zone. Jasper Fire cleared just after 10am.
