Six Joplin stores sell alcohol to minors during compliance check

On November 18, 2023, officers with the Joplin Police Department conducted a youth alcohol compliance check at various locations throughout the city of Joplin. 

The goal of these checks was to access the level of accessibility of alcohol for minors in our community and prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, thus creating a safer and healthier environment for our youth. 

Of the 32 locations checked, 6 locations were found to be non-complaint and sold alcohol to the minors. Citations were issued for sales to a minor at each of those location. The list of the compliant and non-compliant stores can be found below. 

The Joplin Police Department hopes that all retailers will refuse to sell alcoholic beverages to underage buyers. 

To help achieve this goal, The Alliance of Southwest Missouri provided a free server training program for businesses and their employees. The program provided information and tools to assist employees in checking identification and ensuring they know the law, their responsibilities, and their rights. Better trained and prepared employees help us work toward achieving our goal of reducing underage drinking and its negative consequences.
