MOCAPs program at Missouri Southern topic for next Newsmakers

Students in the MOSO Caps program at Missouri Southern State University are working to solve a variety of problems within their communities while learning in the process. Four projects are the focus of this week’s Newsmakers program.

Dr. Suzanne Hull, MOSO Caps Director, explains the goals of the Capstone Projects and how students were paired around topics that matched their passions. 








Kenna Scheurich and Allie McDaniel who are both part of the MOSO Caps Health Strand discuss Population Health and the issue of patients utilizing the emergency room when their ailments could be served by an urgent care facility. 

Eden Pagan and Callie Sweet talk about the inspiration for Roary’s Garden which would grow vegetables to share with college students. Natalie Brueggemann and Evelyn Watson share their idea for a movable roof for public benches to help create shelter for the homeless overnight and the public during wet weather. And Masyn Briggs explains the website she created that features profiles of dogs who have been at the humane society for more than 100 days in hopes of finding a home match for them.








Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of May 26 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communications at Missouri Southern State University.
