Man allegedly drunk driving stolen 4-wheeler captured inside Freeman Hospital

On Thursday, May 30th, 2024 at 2:05 p.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 report of a disturbance near 29th Street and Virginia Avenue. 

As officers arrived in the area, a suspect in the disturbance was observed fleeing the scene on a four -wheeler, which was possibly stolen. Officers also had reasonable suspicion that the suspect was intoxicated. 








Attempts were made to stop the suspect, but he refused and fled from police on the four-wheeler. A vehicle pursuit ensued and the suspect fled into a wooded area south of Freeman Hospital near 34th and Jackson Avenue. 

As officers were searching the area, it was learned that the suspect had abandoned the four-wheeler and had fled on foot into Freeman Hospital. The suspect was located and detained inside the hospital without incident. He was medically cleared and transported to the Joplin City Jail.






 

Further investigation revealed the four-wheeler the suspect was operating was stolen out of Cherokee County, Kansas. 

The suspect has been identified as Dustin S. Cranfill, age 53 of Joplin, Missouri. Charges of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Driving While Intoxicated- Prior Offender have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review.
