Eight people injured in collision north of Stella

Eight people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 3:25 p.m. Saturday on Route D one mile north of Stella.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a 17-year-old Diamond boy attempted to pass another vehicle while going into a curve.








The boy saw a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Kelly R. Sweeney, 39, Washburn, and steered left in an effort to avoid a collision and Sweeney swerved to the right. The Diamond boy's vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway, with the Sweeney vehicle partially traveling off the west side, with the front of the Diamond boy's vehicle hitting the front of the Sweeney vehicle.

Sweeney and a passenger in her vehicle, Richard L. Hendrix, 64, Washburn, were treated for serious and minor injuries, respectively at Mercy Joplin.








Three other passengers in the Sweeney vehicle, a baby, a 2-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, were treated for minor injuries, and a fourth passenger in the Sweeney vehicle, Lisa J. Hendrix, 60, for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. All were from Washburn.

The 17-year-old boy and a passenger in his vehicle, Hope M. Harris, 18, Granby, were treated for moderate and serious injuries, respectively, at Freeman West.
