The organ, as a musical instrument, has roots going back to 3 B.C. The organ is still present in many churches and a group of organists wants to share the majestic sounds organs make at the 5th Annual Hymn Festival. The festival and the organ are the focus of this week’s Newsmakers program.
Gary Jordan, Martin Williams and Scott Stone from the Joplin Organist Association share their experiences playing organs in churches throughout the region. The festival on June 29th, will feature a Wicks Pipe Organ, two pianos and a Pump Organ. It will include a patriotic presentation by veteran Dianne Hermann.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of June 16 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communications at Missouri Southern State University.
