(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)On June 19th, 2024, Jasper County Deputies and detectives responded to the area of Sunrise Lane near Webb City in reference to a report of a male with a gunshot wound. The male was identified as Denis Sanchez- Cortez, 33 years-old of Joplin.
Sanchez-Cortez was transported to a local hospital due to a non-life-threatening, single gunshot wound and was later transferred to Springfield for the injury.
The shooter has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement.
Preliminary investigation shows this to be an act of self-defense. At this time the investigation is still ongoing and may result in charges being presented at a later time. This is an isolated event and there is no danger to the public.
