Joplin Police pursuit leads to DWI arrest of Anderson man in stolen car

On September 2nd, 2025, around 12:19 pm, an officer with the Joplin Police Department was on patrol near 2nd Street and Gray Avenue when he recognized a vehicle that had been reported stolen. The stolen vehicle was reported stolen on September 1st to the Joplin Police Department. 

When the officer attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, it fled from the officer at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit was initiated. The vehicle pursuit went in a southbound direction towards 7th Street where the driver of the stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle causing minor damage. 








The driver of the stolen vehicle continued to flee in the vehicle from pursuing officers westbound on 7th Street and continued to Schifferdecker. 

At the intersection of 7th and Schifferdecker, the stolen vehicle entered the intersection and collided with another vehicle which caused both vehicles to become disabled. 








The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody and later identified as Donny Ray Cook, age 31 of Anderson Missouri. Cook was transported to a local medical facility for an evaluation following the crash at 7th and Schifferdecker. The other parties involved in the crashes declined medical treatment. 

Following the pursuit, a loaded .380 pistol was located in Cook’s possession. Criminal charges have been submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor's Office on Cook for the following violations: D.W.I.-Drugs (habitual offender), tampering 1st degree, felony resisting arrest, driving while revoked, felon in possession of a firearm, felony stealing, and Valentine’s Law.
